In light of recent prosecutions in the area, Huntingdonshire District Council are reminding all businesses serving food that they risk robust enforcement action and even prosecution if they continually fail to meet and comply with food hygiene standards.
The advice follows a recent case at Peterborough Magistrates Court, where takeaway owner Mr Sultan Najafi of The Spice House was fined £1,107 plus costs for food hygiene offences carried out whilst continuing to operate a food business following disconnection of the electricity supply.
Cllr Marge Beuttell, Executive Councillor for Operations and Regulation, said: "We always look to support businesses, but when repeat offences occur or public safety is at risk because premises fail to comply with legislation we will not hesitate to take legal action to ensure the safety of residents."
As well as inspecting local food premises, HDC also provide the Foundation Level 2 in Food Safety course, suitable for anyone working in catering, manufacturing or retail setting where food is prepared, cooked or handled. The next course is on Tuesday 21 May 2019. For further information visit the Food Hygiene Training page.
