‘The Library Presents’ spring programme of arts events in libraries across Cambridgeshire is currently in full swing, with over 900 people attending events so far, and there’s more to come! The current season continues until 25 May 2019 and the new autumn season will start in September 2019.
This April ‘The Library Presents’ invites members of the public to visit their nearest participating library and help choose which performances and workshops they would like to see next autumn.
Communities can pick their preferences from a menu of events with choices for a variety of ages and interests. The menu includes dance, theatre, music, magic, comedy, circus, puppetry, storytelling, poetry and workshops in a variety of disciplines, from visual and digital art to music, theatre and dance.
Menus of arts events and choosing slips will be available in all participating libraries from Monday 1 April. Each participating library has a stand where people can browse the menu, fill out a slip with their choices and add it to the box. All choices are counted and will help decide what is programmed at each individual library. The full programme will be announced in August 2019.
Twenty-two libraries will take part in the autumn 2019 season: Arbury Court, Barnwell Road, Burwell, Cambourne, Cambridge Central, Chatteris, Cherry Hinton, Cottenham, Ely, Great Shelford, Histon, Huntingdon, Littleport, March, Milton Road, Ramsey, Soham, St Neots, St Ives, Warboys, Wisbech and Whittlesey.
The current spring season still features an array of exciting arts events, including ‘The Library Presents’ first ever performances on Mobile Libraries. Isleham Mobile Library hosts Christine Pike’s ‘Lady Chillers’, dramatic readings of eerie Victorian ghost stories on 5 April and Coates Mobile Library will welcome storyteller Marion Leeper for her spooky local tales ‘Ghosts of the Fens’ on 6 April.
Other highlights until the end of May include ‘The Improvised Book Club’ by Do Not Adjust Your Stage, an award winning comedy troupe performing improvised comedy based on the books of your choice (March Library, 26 April), and popular folk singer John Kirkpatrick is performing his show ‘A Victorian Farmer’s Year in Song’ at Burwell library on 17 May.
