Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC), working with the Go Jauntly app, has curated 10 walks to encourage people to get out and about in green spaces across the district.
One of 12 projects across Huntingdonshire which the council successfully achieved funding from the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority Market Towns Programme, the Go Jauntly app provides an opportunity for residents to travel between Huntingdonshire parks, open spaces and towns via the greenest routes.
One of these curated walks takes users through the newly opened Berman Park in St Ives, while others take users through Discover Ramsey's Heritage Trail and Paxton Pits Nature Reserve. All routes aim to encourage more discovery and enjoyment of Huntingdonshire, and improve health and fitness after communities told the council that 90% believe parks and open spaces better mental health and 86% believe they encourage them to keep fit for the future.
Cllr Marge Beuttell, Executive Councillor for Operations and Environment at Huntingdonshire District Council, said: "We are pleased to join forces with Go Jauntly to encourage residents to enjoy some of our outdoor spaces.
"Leisure walking is a good way to start walking, build up fitness and resilience which can then build to walking for day to day travel to school, work or to the shops. We want to encourage residents to think about walking or cycling rather than jumping in the car, especially for shorter journeys as its better for the environment and improves health and wellbeing."
